HSE Culture: “Protect People and the Environment”

We are proud to have rolled out several key updates to our HSE Culture iInitiative in 2024.  As part of that rollout, the HSE team wants to dive deeper into the meaning behind it. Defined as:

“Ensuring the resolute pursuit of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) excellence is a central part of everything we do through the empowerment of our people, protecting and preserving safety and the environment in which we do business, and guaranteeing communication is the cornerstone of our HSE culture.”

There are three keywords we would like to highlight within that definition.

Resolute: Meaning firmly resolved or determined and set in purpose or opinion—we chose this because (to ensure we are truly protecting both people and the environment) we have to be unwavering and true to our course.

Excellence: Many times, when people view HSE, they think of compliance. However, we aim to be more than that. Compliance is a place to begin, not solely a benchmark we intend to reach.  We want to be better than that, striving for world-class excellence.

Cornerstone: Defined as the first set stone in the construction of a foundation, we are setting the foundation for our HSE Culture and the company. We are doing this for current and future Sentinel Integrity Solution employees who are the most important part of our mission.  We want all to know we have built our programs on a solid foundation and built them to achieve the goal of being the safest inspection company in the world.

Regular breaks are crucial for maintaining focus and productivity. Studies show that taking short breaks every 60 minutes can boost your performance and creativity.

Your brain is a powerful thing!

Quick Break Ideas:

  1. Mindful Minute: Practice deep breathing or a short meditation.

  2. Stretch it Out: A quick stretch can relieve tension and increase blood flow.

  3. Walk and Talk: Grab a colleague and take your conversation on the go.

HSE Interviews and Spotlights

The most important part of our HSE Culture is our people. A lot is expected of each of us regarding protecting the safety of our people and the environment in which they work. To do that, we need strong leadership at all levels of the organization, and that starts with our outstanding executive leadership team.

By us having executive leadership that prioritizes safety, it reduces the risk of accidents, leading to a safer work environment.  Our reputation has been built through our positive safety image fostering trust with our customers.

Safety Tip:  Fire Prevention

Fire Safety Tips.png

Fire safety is paramount in any workplace. It is essential for safeguarding our employees, property, and operations. Understanding and implementing effective fire prevention measures can significantly reduce the risk of fire and ensure a safe work environment. Here are key practices and tips to enhance fire prevention in the workplace:

  • Keep Exits Clear: Ensure all fire exits and emergency routes are unobstructed at all times.

  • Avoid Overloading Circuits: Do not overload electrical outlets or use damaged cords.

  • Proper Storage: Store flammable materials in designated, properly labeled containers away from heat sources.

  • Kitchen and Heating Equipment: Never leave cooking appliance unattended.  Keep flammable materials away from the stove and oven.  Ensure all heating equipment is maintained and inspected regularly.  Keep space heaters away from combustible materials and never use them as a primary heat source.

This quarter’s quick safety tip inspired Sentinel employee’s children to draw up their idea of fire safety awareness! Remember, safety is everyone's responsibility. Report any fire hazards or safety concerns immediately. By following these quick tips, we can remain vigilant, ensuring a safer working environment for all.
